Introducing Marilyn Levinson

I’m delighted to announce I’ll be blogging here the first and third Monday of each month. I write mysteries as well as romantic suspense and books for children. I’ve been published traditionally, with e-houses, and have taken the route of self-publishing.  Currently available to readers are two Twin Lake mysteries--MURDERER AMONG US, a Suspense Magazine Best Indie of 2011, and MURDER IN THE AIR--and my ghost mystery, GIVING UP THE GHOST. My romantic suspense, DANGEROUS RELATIONS, will be out with Uncial Press in October.

I lived in Brooklyn until I was fourteen and a half, at which point my family moved to Long Island. I still live on Long Island, which is the setting of most of my novels. Each move, it seems, takes me further east. Makes me wonder if I’ll spend my “mature years” living in Montauk or Greenport.

I was a high school Spanish teacher, and I’ve taught writing classes. I love to travel, to read—what writer doesn’t?—to eat out, especially in ethnic restaurants, to knit and create my own patterns, to email my friends, and do Sudoku. I love cats and most dogs, to watch foreign films, to take long drives with my husband, and enjoy a glass of chardonnay after my writing is done for the day. Sometimes I love to cook, to go for long walks, and do aerobics. I lie. The aerobics is merely to stay in shape.

One of my proudest achievements was co-founding and being the first president of the Long Island chapter of Sisters in Crime. My mind never stops churning out ideas for new plots and new series.

But enough about me. Tell me what you love—or merely like. I’d love to hear from you.

Given your well crafted plots and well turned phrases I'm looking forward to your posts here.

Marilyn, we like many of the same things. I'm just not a Sudoku fan (numbers!). And I prefer dogs to cats but I do love them both and have one of each!

Kaye George said...

Welcome to the blog, Marilyn! I didn't know you created knitting patterns. Wow! I can't even knit. But I used to crochet and made up some patterns then. Glad you're on board!

So glad to join you on your debut post, Marilyn. Looking forward to future news and updates, and toasting you with cyber fav, too! ;-)

Lots of luck to you, Marilyn! Someday, we'll meet for real.

I'm with you about Long Island, you know. I adore both Montauk and Greenport. Such a different world out there.

Most dogs? There must be a story there.

Look forward to your posts, Marilyn!

Pat, Bill, Peg, Kaye, Anne, Terri, and Krista,
Thanks sooo much for stopping by. You are all my friends, though I've yet to meet a few of you in person.
Kaye, I make up knitting patterns after I go through several pattern books, and can't find what I like. Happens all the time.

As for the "most dogs" comment, Krista, I don't like biting dogs. Amazing, I put up with it when Sammy, my cat, takes a nip.

Kudos on your first blog, Marilyn. I'm right there with you on food, mysteries and the dreaded exercise - although I do enjoy yoga.
Keep the blogs coming.

This is great news. I look forward to reading your posts.
By the way, "A Murderer Among Us" has been on my TBR list for quite awhile now but it's finally moved up to #1 on the list. I'm looking forward to reading it next!

I know what you mean about aerobics. About the first 10 minutes is kind of fun, then, I try not to look at the clock and see when it'll be over. I do it because I need to not want to.

Hi Marilyn,

For your first blog post, you certainly did a bang-up job here. We share writing genres, as I also blend mystery and romance.

I commend you for getting SINC off the ground in your area. That's fantastic.

You said you keep moving east along the east coast. I also live on the east coast, but our coast is the farthest west spot on the entire Eastern Seaboard. I'm in that Pac-Man like bite out of Georgia. Our geography comes in handy as most hurricanes scoot on by us for a visit to the Carolinas.

Wishing you all the best!

Welcome to the world of blogging. I've enjoyed blogging with writerswhokill for months now. I look forward to following you. I love cats and dogs, especially my big loveable collie.

Have fun blogging, Marilyn.

I love all different animals and I am an environmentalist. We have to take care of our planet - it's the only home we have.

See you around!

Welcome from the other Marilyn on this list.

Loved learning more about you. We share some likes and are opposites on others--to say nothing about the fact we live on opposite sides of the U.S.

Glad you're here.

Marilyn Levinson said...

Dear Gloria and Donna,

Thanks for visiting and hearing about your love for animals.

Marilyn Levinson said...

I used to practice Yoga regularly. I think it's one of ther reasons I'm in fairly good shape.

Marilyn Levinson said...

Jana, Marja, and Sandy,
Thanks for visiting. I'm glad to be in a group blog. I hardly ever write entries for my own.

Marilyn Levinson said...

So glad A Murderer Among Us has moved up on your TBR list. Do let me know how you like it.

Marilyn Levinson said...

I certainly am in good company. Thanks for stopping by.

Marilyn Levinson said...

Thanks for inviting me to join the group.

I solve the aerobics issue by chatting with my friends as I move about. Makes the time pass more quickly.

Marilyn Levinson said...

It's fun to meet someone who writes in similar genres.
How lucky that you miss most of the Carolina hurricanes. We had our share of one a year ago.

Marilyn Levinson said...

Dear Marilyn,
I'm glad to be in a blogging group with you as I've always admired you from afar.

What exactly do we both like? Don't like?

Patg said...

Congradulations on your new blog place.

Earl Staggs said...

Welcome to MMM, Marilyn. I'll look forward to you brightening every other Monday.

By the way, in one of your responses you said, "I don't like biting dogs." My suggestion would be to stop biting them. ;-)

Congratulations on your new blog, Marilyn. You certainly are a prolific gal, several genres and different methods of publishing. You represent the new "hybrid" author.

Marilynn Larew said...

Good luck, Marilyn. I agree with you about cats, ethnic food, and exercise. Still, walking is useful.

I'll have some virtual chardonnay with you. Debuts are worth celebrating.

Marilyn Levinson said...

Pat, BK and Grace,
Thanks for visiting and your good wishes.
Gregory, I'll certainly keep you in mind re reviews and reviewing.
Earl, I'll have to stop biting those dogs!
Love the new hybrid label. I think most writers write in more than one genre.
Could having so many things in common be related to our having the same name??
