My favorite Christmas memory is a little one. My son and I attended Christmas Eve services in our little town. As we left the church that night, snow had started falling, coating the cars and streets with a white dusting. Not enough to be a problem driving, but the world was almost silent in the storm.
Many times I only think of the trouble a snow storm brings. The bad roads, the slippery sidewalks, the need for more layers.
But that night, the world was magical again.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and find your piece of magic in the season.
What's your favorite holiday memory?

I'm not sure it's a favorite Christmas memory, but it persists. Some years ago, my wife and I roused ourselves from Christmas Eve stupor, and drove down to the inner city of Detroit to see a midnight service at St. Joseph's, a beautiful old church. As we neared the location in what was and remains a decimated area in a city very much down on its luck, something both eery and intriguing marked our way. Here and there, steam was rising in strong upward pillars from manholes. In Detroit, the city provides free heat to some areas, and that's what we were seeing. It was a very dark, very cold night, and this made what we saw especially magical.
Wow! I love that imagery! Thanks for sharing Barry!
When I was young, on Christmas Eve the parents let us open one of our presents. That always made Christmas Eve special.
The rest of the presents awaited us on Christmas Day.

Morgan, I did that with my son when he was growing up. Letting one present be special in the mass of Christmas Day unwrapping.
